Anyone with kids can attest to how hard it is.  Imagine trying to do it as a foster teen without any real support.  Thanks to a new generation of philanthropists called Alliance of Moms, whose mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of babies born to teens in foster care, these young mothers and fathers have an organization dedicated to providing them with much needed support and education.  This weekend they will be hosting their annual “Raising Baby” event which is an educational health and wellness day for pregnant and parenting foster teens in LA County. The day consists of practical and interactive workshops that empower young parents with tools to raise their children in a positive environment.

Upon learning that by three years of age, there is a 30-million-word gap between children from the wealthiest and poorest families, they decided to focus the Raising Baby program around early brain development and the importance of engagement and learning in the first few years of life.

Up to 100 foster youth and their babies attend a lively and rewarding day of workshops at The Children’s Institute. The event stimulates not only the brains but all of the senses of these young parents and their children.
